IN THIS VIDEO, PROF MOHAMMED MUHTASEB SHARES HIS REFRACTIVE CATARACT SURGERY SAFETY RECORD
What is Mohammed Muhtaseb’s safety record regarding refractive cataract surgery?
Back around 2002 to 2003, as a training doctor in London, I realized that there was no system in place to formally stratify patients having cataract surgery according to combined risk factors. There had been published papers in the past about individual, specific risk factors. Still, there was nothing that had combined them all to give a global risk score. Therefore, I developed a risk stratification system, had it validated, and published a large study back in 2004. Today, that system is used in various clinics in countries around the world.
Most people don’t get given information about all the options they actually have surrounding cataract surgery. Did you know it is not only possible to fix your cataracts but you can often fix your reading and/or distance vision at the same time? I use that system myself in my practice to assess an overall global risk score. It allows me to give patients individualized risk versus benefit information and also allows me to mitigate the risks by highlighting them before the surgery.
A part of the surgical planning is mitigating certain risks for certain individual patients. This takes place during the consultation and is a discussion that I will have with my patients.
I invite you to contact my practice by calling the phone number provided. We can start the process of consulting and determining your suitability for the interventions that we can provide, and hopefully get you to a point where you’re achieving your outcomes and enjoying life without cataracts and without needing your glasses and contact lenses.
